Led by the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Tsinghua University, Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Design and Delivery for Oral Therapeutics is co-established with partner institutions including Beijing InnoCare Pharma Tech Co., Ltd. and Quaerite Biopharm Research (Beijing) Co., Ltd. Professor Qian Feng, Dean of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Tsinghua University, serves as the director of the laboratory.
With the rapid emergence of novel "Beyond-Rule-of-Five" therapeutics—such as peptides, poorly soluble or poorly absorbed small molecules, and proteins—the rational design and oral delivery of these novel modalities have become critical and urgent demands in today's biopharmaceutical industry. Integrating the core research capabilities of Tsinghua University and its industrial partners, the Beijing Key Laboratory of Intelligent Design and Delivery for Oral Therapeutics spans two major dimensions: the research of novel drug design and advanced delivery technologies, and the R&D of innovative oral drug products. The laboratory's research directions encompass: the design, synthesis, and preparation of various oral therapeutics; AI-driven drug design and AI-empowered characterization of critical drug attributes; the construction of gastrointestinal organoid models and high-throughput drug permeability evaluation; and various advanced oral formulation technologies. The laboratory will systematically investigate and summarize the key attributes governing the oral druggability of diverse therapeutic modalities, with a dedicated commitment to constructing an oral peptide molecular library. Concurrently, the laboratory will collaborate closely with industry peers to track the competitive industrial landscape and initiate project definition and early-stage R&D for multiple novel oral drugs. The core mission of this laboratory is to synergize drug molecular design with pharmaceutical formulation innovation, break the traditional boundaries between the two disciplines, and drive a fundamental paradigm shift in pharmacotherapy from injection to oral administration, thereby enhancing the clinical accessibility and commercial value of diverse innovative therapeutics.
