Laboratory Animal Center
The Laboratory Animal Center was established in 2006 as a conventional-grade experimental platform. It is constructed and managed by the First Affiliated Hospital and is located within the premises of Tsinghua University First Hospital.
The center’s research focuses on surgical experiments involving medium and large animals. This includes replicating clinical disease models and conducting preclinical biocompatibility and safety studies for conditions such as structural heart disease, vascular disease, metabolic disorders, general surgery, and oncology. It also supports the development and testing of various active medical devices and provides clinical surgical skills training.
The center’s technical specialties include long-term involvement in clinical teaching and research using conventional-grade laboratory animals. It offers a wide range of services, including surgical skills training, laboratory animal housing, animal experimentation, and technical consultation. The platform supports resource sharing in terms of laboratory animals, experimental facilities, instruments, equipment, and personnel.
The primary service recipients are faculty and students from both within and outside the university.
