Declaration for "Guidance Group for Doctoral Dissertation in Basic Medical Sciences"

1、Background

According to the "Regulations on The Training of Doctoral Students in Tsinghua University" and "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Whole-process Management of The Quality of Postgraduate Dissertations" (Tsinghua Graduate (2020) No. 7), a "Thesis Committee" is added to the doctoral training program of Basic Medical Science. Furthermore, the guidance of the whole process should be strengthened in the training procedures of the doctoral thesis topic selection, research, summary of achievements, paper writing and publication to encourage doctoral students to achieve high-level innovative achievements. Strict control is strengthened over the topic selection report, annual progress report, final academic report and other procedures. Students who meet the graduation requirements are recommended to submit their final academic report and enter the graduation process, and doctoral students who are not suitable for continuing to study are suggested to divert as early as possible

2、Components

The "doctoral dissertation guidance group" of each doctoral student is composed of 3 or more experts with doctoral supervisor qualification, including their own supervisor.

Note: teachers from departments or other units can be invited.

3、Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the members in the guidance group include participating in the important procedures such as postgraduate training, give annual guidance to doctoral students' scientific research topics and progress, check and assess the progress of thesis work, objectively evaluate the quality and innovation of doctoral dissertation work, and recommend them for final academic report and formal defense.

4、Others

1、Form of organization: organized by tutors themselves.

2、Special circumstances: 1) For the thesis topic selection report of interdisciplinary doctoral students, experts from other disciplines should be invited to attend. 2) If the topic selection of the doctoral qualification examination is the topic selection of dissertation, it can be regarded as the opening report, and there is no need to make the opening report again. However, if there is a major change in the subject of the dissertation, the topic selection report should be re-done. The time from the adoption of the selected topic report to the application for defense is generally not less than one year.

The doctoral thesis guidance group participates in the important procedures of graduate education (from fixing guidance to graduation), and gives annual guidance to the research topic selection and progress of doctoral students, check and assess the progress of thesis work, objectively evaluate the quality and innovation of doctoral thesis work, recommend the doctoral students who meet the graduation requirements for final academic report (pre-defense), and enter the graduation process; Suggestions are put forward for diverting Ph.D. students who are not suitable for further study.
