Implementation Rules for The Final Academic Report of Doctoral Students in Basic Medical Sciences of The School of Medicine

All Ph.D. students in Basic Medical Sciences should participate in the final academic report and pass the examination before applying for graduation.

(1)、 Application requirements for final academic report:

1. Doctoral students should complete most of the research for their doctoral project,

2. Write and submit a progress report (see attachment), 2000-3000 words in English.

3. The progress report of the research work and thesis work has been approved by the supervisor and the doctoral dissertation steering group.

(2)、 Organization of the final academic report:

1. Time: organized by the advisor (group) or the student, the defense can be conducted throughout the year, at least 3 months before the formal application.

Note: For those who are expected to graduate in June, they should finish before the end of February at the latest.

For those who are expected to graduate in October, they should finish by the end of June at the latest.

For those who are expected to graduate in January of the following year should finish by the end of September at the latest.

2. Final Academic Report procedure:

1） The assessment committee (including members of the doctoral dissertation steering group) should be composed of more than 5 peer experts to evaluate the major achievements and innovations of the dissertation work. Off-campus experts can be invited if necessary. At least two experts from other disciplines should be invited to participate in the summary report of the thesis work of interdisciplinary doctoral students.

2）During the defense, each doctoral student's PPT presentation lasts 30-45 minutes, and the Q&A session lasts about 1 hour.

3） The evaluation committee should evaluate the systematisms and innovation of doctoral research objectively and impartially. The assessment committee shall first vote on whether the students pass the assessment by secret ballot, and if more than two-thirds of all members agree, the examination shall be approved. After that, the percentage of students who have passed is graded and the average score is calculated as the final academic report score of the students who have passed. The final academic report will be used as a reference for the committee to discuss the degree.The examination committee will give specific opinions and suggestions for failing doctoral students;

3. Treatment of final academic report results：

1） Doctoral students who pass the final academic report must submit their thesis for approval within the specified time to formally enter the graduation process.

2） Doctoral students who fail to pass the final academic report shall continue to supplement and improve the research work according to the suggestions of the assessment committee and can apply for the second final academic report half a yearlater according to the actual progress of the project. If the second final academic report is approved, the graduation process can be officially started. If the second final academic report fails, doctoral students will need to plan for withdrawal (bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and postgraduate doctoral students should apply for postgraduate training; General doctoral students and those who have not transferred to master's degree can apply for withdrawal, otherwise the student shall be expelled from school.
