利用交叉学科的优势,结合冷冻电子显微镜, X-射线晶体学及分子与细胞生物学的方法,系统性地研究复杂生物大分子(如病毒)组装及行使功能的分子机制。同时,基于结构研究基础,利用人工智能开展以结构为导向的疫苗及药物开发。目前研究集中于天然免疫抗病毒分子机理及病毒等复杂生物大分子组装及行使功能的分子机制。

系统研究了一系列重要囊膜病毒如SARS冠状病毒入侵宿主细胞分子机制,为相关病毒疫苗及药物研发提供重要理论指导作用。在《科学》(Science),《自然》(Nature),《细胞》(Cell)等杂志上发表多篇文章。相关研究成果具有广泛国际影响力,单篇文章引用超1000次。
