Tsinghua Medicine recently welcomed 12 medical students from the National University of Singapore (NUS) as part of the Tsinghua University–National University of Singapore International Medical Elective Program. The students participated in a clinical exchange seminar at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, where they engaged with faculty and shared their clinical observations.

Students participated in a clinical exchange seminar at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital.
During their visit, the students had the opportunity to observe complex and diverse clinical cases, including precision hepatobiliary surgery and robotic-assisted urology procedures, which are less commonly encountered in Singapore. “The teaching cases at Tsinghua-affiliated hospitals are incredibly diverse. The precision in hepatobiliary surgery and the use of robotic-assisted techniques in urology have been eye-opening experiences,” shared one of the visiting students.
The exchange program also emphasizes the importance of global medical collaboration in fostering a new generation of physicians with cross-cultural perspectives. Professor Wong Tien Yin, Senior Vice-Chancellor of Tsinghua Medicine, highlighted the significance of such initiatives:
"Global medical exchanges like this are essential for training future doctors with a comprehensive understanding of medicine across different healthcare systems. By engaging with diverse clinical environments, students develop broader perspectives on patient care and medical innovation."
The Tsinghua University–National University of Singapore International Medical Elective Program is supported by the Beijing Chen Jianghe Charity Foundation and serves as a flagship initiative in medical education collaboration between the two universities. To date, over 70 international students have participated in short-term clinical rotations at Tsinghua-affiliated hospitals through this program.
In 2025, the first cohort of 12 NUS medical students is undertaking clinical observerships at Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital in the Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery Center, Urology, and Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, as well as at Huaxin Hospital’s Cardiovascular Surgery Department.
This exchange underscores Tsinghua Medicine’s commitment to international collaboration, enhancing medical education and fostering deeper global engagement in healthcare.
