During the implementation of the plan, if any change is required due to special circumstances, the change shall be made during the course selection period of each semester after obtaining the consent of the tutor. The revised course learning plan shall be signed by the supervisor and sent to the graduate department of the department for record.

3、Regulations on the results of doctoral degree courses

To ensure the quality and strengthen the construction of postgraduate style of study, and to stay in combination with the history of postgraduate degree course learning in our department, the requirements for doctoral degree course scores are as follows:

1) For bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and doctoral students who are admitted in advance, the single subject score lower than grade C shall not be more than 4 credits. For non-graduating undergraduate students or on-the-job students, the single subject score lower than grade C shall not be more than 6 credits.

2) Those who fail to meet the above requirements will be allowed to retake the course with a grade below level C.

4、Qualification Examination

According to the “Regulations on the Cultivation of Doctoral Students in Tsinghua University”, after a certain period of study (2 academic years for bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and 1 academic year for general doctoral students), students are required to pass the doctoral qualification examination. The qualification examination committee is composed of 3 to 5 doctoral supervisors or teachers with senior professional and technical positions designated by the Academic Degree Sub-committee, who is responsible for the assessment.

The qualification examination is organized uniformly according to the first-level disciplines. The doctoral qualification examination is usually arranged from June to September. The examination content includes two parts: basic theory and professional knowledge, covering the professional knowledge of the discipline related to the research direction. The examination consists of written and oral examinations, and the doctoral supervisor is responsible for supervising no more than one-third of the doctoral thesis part. The examination committee shall inform Ph.D. candidates one month in advance of the examination content. A doctoral qualification examination is required to continue the thesis work. Please refer to "Rules for Doctoral Qualification Examination of Biomedical Engineering Department, Medical College" for details.

Those who do not pass the qualification examination or those who need a second review must take the doctoral qualification examination next year. Those who fail to pass the qualification examination two times in total shall be separated from the training program. Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students can apply for postgraduate training; General doctoral students and other doctoral students who do not transfer to master's degree can apply for withdrawal, otherwise, they will be expelled from the school.

5、Literature review and topic selection report

After completion of the qualification examination, doctoral students should be under the guidance of the supervisor and the guidance group. They need to access to literature, understand the status and trends of the subject, conduct in-depth investigation and research, determine the specific topic, and complete the topic report as soon as possible. It usually should be completed within a year after the completion of the qualification examination topic report. The topic selection report should include literature review, topic selection, and significance, main research content, work characteristics and difficulties, expected results and possible innovations, etc. Oral presentation of topic selection should be conducted in a relatively concentrated and open manner within the discipline. According to "Regulations on the Cultivation of Doctoral Students in Tsinghua University", the assessment team mainly composed of supervisors (groups) shall make the assessment, and there shall be no less than 3 teachers with doctoral guidance qualification in the assessment team. Experts from other disciplines shall be invited to participate in the report on the topic selection of doctoral thesis which belongs to interdisciplinary training. If there is a major change in the subject of the dissertation, a new topic report should be made. The time from the adoption of the selected topic report to the application for defense is generally not less than one year.

Those who fail to pass the selected topic report can apply again 3 months later. For general doctoral students, if they fail to pass the topic selection report before the end of the third academic year, or if they fail to pass the exam twice, they should plan to drop their doctoral degree. For Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students, if they fail to pass the topic selection report before the end of the fourth academic year, or if they fail to pass the exam twice, they should plan to drop their doctoral degree. Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students can apply for postgraduate training; for both bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and doctoral students, if they do not apply for the transfer of master's degree, they will be dismissed by the school if they do not voluntarily apply for withdrawal.

6、Social Practice

In accordance with the "Tsinghua University Doctoral compulsory Social practice management measures".

7、Academic activities and academic reports

The doctoral student academic report system is implemented. Doctoral students should make at least one public academic report within the scope of first-level disciplines every academic year during the thesis work. The student shall also make at least one oral presentation at a national or international academic conference during the study period; During the period of study, students should listen to more than 30 academic reports, including more than 4 academic reports of first-level disciplines. They should write at least 15 summaries of academic reports, each with no less than 500 words, and keep them recorded after being signed by the supervisor. The unified academic report record form shall be signed by the supervisor, and the record of attending the academic report meeting and the summary of attending the academic report must be submitted when applying for oral defense, serving as one of the qualifications for approving the defense application. The academic report meeting record form is uniformly formulated by the department.

8、Mid-term review

The mid-term examination system for dissertations shall be implemented. In the middle of doctoral thesis work, that is, about half a year to a year after the proposal, the department or research institute should organize an examination team (3-5 people) on the comprehensive ability of doctoral students, paperwork progress, and work attitude, energy investment and so on to carry out a comprehensive examination. Those who pass will be allowed to continue their thesis work, those who fail will be dismissed from school. A written report and oral academic report shall be submitted for the interim inspection, and the examination team shall give the results and submit them to the department for record.

Those who fail the mid-term examination can apply again 3 months later. For general doctoral students, if they fail to pass the mid-term examination before the end of the fourth academic year, or if they fail to pass the exam twice, they should plan to drop their doctoral degree. For Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students, if they fail to pass the mid-term examination before the end of the fifth academic year, or if they fail to pass the exam twice, they should plan to drop their doctoral degree. Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students can apply for postgraduate training; for both bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and doctoral students, if they do not apply for the transfer of master's degree, they will be dismissed by the school if they do not voluntarily apply for withdrawal.

9、Final Academic Report

According to regulations of “Tsinghua University on The Cultivation of Doctoral Students”, the final academic report can be submitted to the dissertation for approval. After the dissertation is completed and at least 3 months before the formal application for defense, doctoral students should make a summary report of the dissertation work, inviting more than five peer experts to evaluate the main achievements and innovation of the dissertation work. Peer experts should be doctoral supervisors of their disciplines or related disciplines or experts with senior professional and technical positions, and more than half of them should have doctoral supervisor qualifications. At least two experts from other disciplines should be invited to participate in the summary report of the thesis work of interdisciplinary doctoral students.

Students applying for the final academic report are required to submit the introduction of the doctoral dissertation, the first draft of the doctoral dissertation, and relevant supporting materials of the innovative achievements of the doctoral dissertation. The supervising group will decide whether to enter the final academic report. The expert group participating in the final academic report will evaluate the main achievements and creativity of the paperwork based on the student report, and determine whether the paper can enter the evaluation stage. The final academic report shall adopt anonymous voting, and the dissertation can be sent to peer experts for review only after it is approved by at least 2/3 of the experts attending the conference.

If doctoral students fail to pass the final academic report 3 months before reaching the maximum length of study, this compulsory course does not meet the requirements of the training program and students should plan to drop their doctoral degree. Doctoral students who meet the application conditions can apply for graduation. Bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students can apply for postgraduate training; for both bachelor-straight-to-doctorate students and doctoral students, if they do not apply for the transfer of master's degree, they will be dismissed by the school if they do not voluntarily apply for withdrawal.
