（1）Sets up the goal of cultivating China's own "physician scientists"

In foreign countries, the concept of Physician Scientists has long been popular. They are doctors, who not only possess noble medical ethics and superb medical skills but also have strong scientific research ability. They can point out the direction of modern medicine, breakthrough difficulties, and blaze new trails.

At present, Chinese doctors follow western medical instructions, use foreign medical equipment and administer modern drugs developed by multinational pharmaceutical companies. China has plenty of doctors, but lacks physician-scientists who are well versed in modern life science research. Tsinghua University medical Experimental Class is therefore a medical education program for China to train its own physicians and scientists.

（2）Creates a training program for shaping future medical leaders

The medical experimental class adopts 3+2+3=MD and 3+3+3=MD/Ph.D. education system. Students spend three years in Tsinghua university, learning humanities and social science foundation courses, natural science foundation courses, life science courses, and basic medical courses.

Students then spend 2-3 years in top medical schools abroad for complete and standard medical scientific research systematical training. Students applying for the MD/Ph.D. degree is required to achieve research results and publish papers that meet the requirements of the Ph.D. degree of Tsinghua University in three years of research training.

Students shall then head back to China and conduct three years of clinical study in the best clinical hospital, and prepare themselves to become future medical talents.

（3）Adopts international dual tutorial system

All the students who meet the standards of the medical experimental classes will be sent to top medical schools abroad for scientific research training. Both School of medicine, Tsinghua University, and the medical school abroad will assign one supervisor for each student. The scientific research training mode of "the international dual tutor system" can enable students to smoothly transition from the basic undergraduate course study stage to the scientific research training stage, and also help students to continue their scientific research in China after completing the scientific research training abroad. This training mode is unique in domestic medical colleges.

（4）Integrate into the perfect training environment of a comprehensive university

Domestic medical colleges have traditionally developed independently. In recent years, many famous medical colleges have merged with comprehensive universities. However, these medical colleges and universities are still separated from each other and fail to achieve perfect integration in terms of geographical location, student training system, and spiritual and cultural atmosphere. The School of Medicine, Tsinghua University, is located in the beautiful Tsinghua Garden. The students of the medical experimental class live in the same environment as the students of other departments of Tsinghua University and share the highest quality educational resources of Tsinghua University. The students can then be cultivated into medical talents in a real sense.
