1. Lijia Cui: Graduated in 2017, now working at Peking Union Medical College Hospital

   In the summer of 2009, I walked into Tsinghua University. I had originally planned to be admitted to Union Medical College through secondary enrollment, but after seeing a flyer of medical experimental class enrollment in the corridor, I encountered the freshly established medical experimental class. After listening to professor Yigong Shi’s talk about the mission of "doctor scientists", I was deeply inspired and vaguely saw my future.

   As one of the students in the newly formed experimental class, I went through general education at Tsinghua University, scientific research training in Pittsburgh, and clinical enrollment in Union Medical College Hospital. I had a better concept of the doctor profession. This profession is now connected with specific symptoms, signs, and diseases, modern diagnosis and individualized treatment, as well as the sense of accomplishment when healing patients and the pain when losing patients. However, the mystery of the doctor profession has not yet faded away, and it is still attracting me to explore and move forward.

   The professional scientific research training we have received in the United States made us more skillful in clinical practice. Based on the scientific basis of genomics, I assisted a professor in identifying a 27-year-old patient with Ehler-Danlos syndrome during my rotation in vascular surgery. We feel truly gratified and proud of our choice when we receive praise from the professors of the Union Medical College Hospital. We are also grateful to the medical teachers who have helped us along the way.

In the future medical practice, I would continue accumulating and exploring. I shall always bear my goals in mind.

1. Yuhao Jiao: Graduated in 2020, now working inPeking Union Medical College Hospital

   I am a graduate of the eight-year medical experimental class of the School of Medicine, Tsinghua University. As a student of China's first Physician-scientist Training Program, I have always been very proud and ambitious.

   After three years of firm and solid foundation courses study and two years of overseas scientific research training, I have confidence that after completion of the clinical course in three years, I shall possess good scientific research and clinical skills, and I shall apply them in work. I have always believed that clinical ability and scientific research ability are a must for qualified doctors. Our mission is not only to cure patients but also to discover new therapies, new clinical ideas, and to better improve people's health.

   What impressed me most during my scientific research study in Melbourne was that thanks to the first three years of preparation at Tsinghua University, I learned skills very quickly, including various experimental technologies. I also got familiar with the scientific research environment quickly. Basic laboratory courses provide a platform to understand and master laboratory techniques while conducting well-ordered theoretical courses. In addition, through studying in various laboratories during the last two years as undergraduate students,we can take part in group meetings and various academic reports or conferences. These help us consolidate necessary skills and help us feel the atmosphere of scientific research in advance. Tsinghua University is a highly internationalized university. After I came to Australia, I did not experience any culture shock in the research environment. This is one of the benefits of the medical experimental class program.

   We returned to China and completed the last stage of our clinical courses in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. After graduation in the summer of 2020, I joined Union Medical College Hospital and started my clinical career.

   In short, the medical experimental class project has provided us the most superior resources and the highest platform. I'm hopeful and confident that this sophisticated program shall train a professional team of physician-scientists.

Yuhao Jiao

Outstanding Delegate：

Jiuyang Xu, an outstanding graduate of the Medical Experimental Class of 2021, won the "Tsinghua University Graduate Sailing Bonus" and "Outstanding Graduate of Beijing Universities". During his study, he won the national scholarship twice and the Comprehensive and Aacademic Excellence Scholarship of Tsinghua University many times. In May this year, he participated in the 10th National Medical Technical Skills Competition for College Students and won the gold medal champion of the eight-year clinical track.
