In 2021, the population over 60 years old in my country has reached 18.7%, and aging-related diseases will become a major medical burden and challenge year by year. The aging of human cells, tissues and organs causes various functional degenerative diseases, such as decreased fertility, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. At present, the medical field is actively using regenerative medicine to develop treatment plans to repair the body's aging-related diseases. Regenerative medicine covers cell, tissue, and organ transplantation and treatment, combined with bioengineering, material engineering and other cross-transformation applications, focusing on pluripotency and self-renewal and differentiation of adult stem cells, regulating mechanisms for organ development, regeneration and aging, and controlling cell fate and the application of technology to interfere with aging.

Stem cell and regenerative medicine is a new field of biomedicine in the ascendant in recent years. It has great clinical application value. It aims to promote wound repair and cure diseases through stem cell transplantation, differentiation and tissue regeneration. Stem cells APSC pluripotent cells and regenerative medicine will change the traditional treatment methods for necrotic and traumatic diseases, and bring revolutionary changes to the mechanism research and clinical application of diseases. In recent years, the international competition in the field of stem cells and regenerative medicine has become increasingly fierce, and it has become an important indicator for measuring the development level of a country’s life sciences and medicine.

Tsinghua University School of Medicine takes advantage of Tsinghua University’s interdisciplinary and fusion advantages, starting from basic medical research, in-depth exploration of the mechanism of stem cell development and regenerative medicine, while establishing basic theories, it also develops treatments for aging-related diseases, including stroke, Parkinson, Diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and diabetes promote technological breakthroughs and industrial development in related fields such as cell therapy and gene therapy. The Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Center of Tsinghua University was established in 2011. In recent years, the research team has clarified the epigenetic regulation mechanism of stem cells, the mechanism of stem cell and reproductive development, the differentiation mechanism of mesoderm and blood stem cells, and the development and differentiation of neural stem cells. In recent years, we have conducted regular academic exchanges and multidisciplinary cooperation with teams researching stem cells and regenerative medicine in multiple departments, to promote research from basics to translation and clinical applications. In the future development, the medical school will strengthen the integration of medicine and work, interdisciplinary, continue to recruit world-class regenerative medicine experts, and focus on establishing regenerative medicine methods and application platforms for the treatment of aging-related diseases.
