履历

    清华大学医学院生物医学工程系研究员、博士生导师。1996 年本科毕业于清华大学,2001 年获得 清华大学生物医学工程专业博士学位。2004 至 2005 年美国约翰霍普金斯大学医学院访问学者。 2005 年聘为清华大学医学院生物医学工程系副教授 ,2012 年聘为研究员。2007 年入选北京市 “ 科 技新星 ” 人才计划,2009 年入选教育部新世纪优秀人才。目前兼任 IEEE Trans. Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering 副主编,中国仪器仪表学会医疗仪器分会副理事长等。

We may take it for granted of our ability of speaking and listening in daily communication. Surprisingly, we know very little about the brain mechanism of this magic cycle of speech production and perception. Millions of people are suffering from hearing and communication disorder, hoping for innovative treatment and rehabilitation. In my lab, we are searching for the neural code of sound and speech representation in the brain. We look at very precise firing of single neurons in the rat brain, to identify neural circuits accounting for the processing of complex sounds. Meanwhile, collaborating with neurosurgeons, the speech-processing network of human brain is investigated by checking the population activity from the surface of patients’ brain. Putting these puzzle pieces together, a picture of speaking and listening brain is emerging from the massive neural data. Besides helping patients, the neural circuits and codes that we are finding will surely be a crucial hint of developing a smarter speech recognition system, like Siri on your cell phone.
